Kanoa Kava

Continuing this month’s Dry January showcase, we bring you Kanoa Kava, a unique kava bar tucked right next to Casa de Luz Village, just off South Lamar Street and only a few blocks from the Colorado River.

If you’re not familiar with kava, it’s a beverage made from the ground root of a plant native to the South Pacific islands. Known for its relaxing, almost meditative qualities, it’s a drink with deep cultural roots but I’m warning you, the taste isn’t for everyone. If you’re trying kava for the first time, I’d recommend mixing it with whole milk or coconut milk the extra fat not only mellows out the flavor but also helps amplify the calming effects.

Bowl of Kava

If kava isn’t your thing, don’t worry they also have teas to choose from. The moment you walk in, the vibe at Kanoa Kava just washes over you slowing everything down and inviting you to relax. It’s definitely a spot where you can unwind and let the stress melt away.

Now I’ll admit trying kava for the first time can feel a little intimidating if you’re new to it but I encourage you to give it a shot. Whether you’re there for the kava or just soaking in the chill atmosphere with a cup of tea, Kanoa Kava is worth the visit.

Bula (That’s a traditional kava toast you’ll hear it means “cheers” to health and happiness!)
