Hillside Farmacy

If you don’t know the history behind Hillside Farmacy, let me catch you up to speed.

It’s owned by one of the oldest standing African American families in East Austin and sits inside what used to be a pharmacy in the 1950s.

Hillside Farmacy

After closing in the 1970s, the space was restored and reopened as a farm to table restaurant that supports local farms and ranches all while offering some crazy happy hour deals.

We decided to check it out on Sunday for their Sunday night steak dinner special, but we’ll get to that in a bit.

Parking Tip

It can be a little tricky but here’s the deal.

There is a small parking lot behind the restaurant that you can access through an alley.

You can also park on the street next to the cemetery, one side is free while the other side is paid so just double check the signs.

First Impressions, the second we walked in, the place felt like Austin.

It’s in the perfect spot on the East Side at 1209 E 11th St and the interior keeps the building’s humble beginnings alive.

Old pharmacy equipment, vintage medicine bottles, and classic signs are everywhere, making it a super unique place to grab a meal.

$25 Steak Dinner Every Sunday

We went on a Sunday, but if you’re looking for an amazing happy hour, their Wednesday through Friday from 3 to 5 PM deals are hard to beat

Half off bottles of wine, snacks and oysters

We started with the Arancini Balls which were crispy risotto and Parmesan balls that I easily could have eaten as a full meal.

Arancini Balls $10

I went with the steak dinner which was solid and knowing it was farm to table made it even better.

Steak Dinner $25

Side note I still have to take y’all to my favorite steakhouse so keep an eye out for that review soon.

Chan got the chicken and gnocchi which came in a butternut squash purée with hints of cinnamon and nutmeg and it was warm, cozy, and perfect for the weather.

Chicken gnocchi $25

While on the pricier side, it’s a great dinner spot and an even better stop during happy hour.

If you haven’t been yet, it’s definitely worth checking out, especially if you love a good deal on wine and oysters.
