San Ginés
Even though it just opened three months ago, we kept hearing about the new churro spot on South Lamar, San Ginés. We had to check it out for ourselves, and I have to say we totally understand the hype.
Those folks from Spain were definitely onto something.
Tapas Menu
The company has been family owned since 1894, and they finally decided to bring their churros and hot chocolate to Austin. Honestly, I never thought churros and hot chocolate would be so much hype, but now I get it.
Parking was a little weird. There are only six spots right in front and a few more in the lot next door, so parking at night might be tricky. But once you walk in, the place has a cool vibe. It’s not just about dessert either they’ve got muffins on display and even tapas on the menu, so it doesn’t have to be just a dinner spot.
Plain and Cinnamon with Sugar
When we went, we got two churros with chocolate, and it came out to just under $20 not bad, especially compared to all the new places charging $30+ for just about everything. The chocolate was super rich, and we tried both plain churros and churros with sugar and cinnamon. The sugar and cinnamon ones were definitely the winner.
I’ve seen people say it can get really busy, but when we went, it was pretty chill. We didn’t wait long, and everything was fresh. The churros were so good my wife actually went back later that week with a friend.
Look at that patio 😍
We didn’t try any of the food, but we saw plates coming out, and they looked awesome. The ribeye plate with fries was huge, easily enough for two people.
Ordered the San Gines Churros
This spot is definitely going on our list for regular stops. The patio makes up half the seating, and I can already tell it’s going to be perfect once the weather warms up. Do you know of any other good patio spots around town? We’re always looking for new ones to check out!
